Standard 3
Model digital age work and learning
Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.
a. Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
b. Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation ISTE Standards Teachers International Society for Technology in Education Effective teachers model and apply the ISTE Standards for Students as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students, colleagues, and the community. All teachers should meet the following standards and performance indicators.
c. Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats
d. Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning

Reflection
Standard 3 in the realm of education is imperative. Teachers must stay current with the technological trends and innovations. Educators must actively seek out new applications to integrate into instruction to assist themselves and their students. Students today are digitally natives, teachers must bridge the gap and embrace teaching practices that are more engaging to 21st century learners. The artifacts below demonstrate how the standards are reflected in my course work as an MSIT student.
I have created a Needs Assessment to help understand my students needs. Standard 3 states the teacher needs to be able to effectively use digital tools to analyze and evaluate information and resources to support learning By creating a needs assessments the instructor can assess the needs of the students individually. Once the results of the needs assessment has been analyzed lessons can be created to ensure that the content and standards can be met by all enrolled in the class. I feel that by giving my students a needs assessment survey that I can assess their prior knowledge when beginning new units of study and that I can produce lessons that meet their needs and it will also support learning.
The second artifact is a group project on communication tools. This artifact was developed by my group in the IT 648 spring course. We were placed into groups of 4 and we were asked to become familiar with synchronous and asynchronous communication tools. The group completed learning activities with the tool and then created a paper discussing each tools; we discussed the tools advantages and challenges, we reported ideas for using the tool and how this tool could be used in the classroom. I learned several new communication tools, collaborated with my fellow peers to evaluate and analyze each, and communicated relevant information and ideas through the group project and the writing of the paper.
The third artifact that I feel represents Standard three is a tutorial page of how to use Khan Academy. Khan Academy has created a platform on the web that allows teachers to enroll students in specific courses, the site then maintain records of the students progress. Through the website, teachers can also monitor the progress of students who are using the site. This is a great way to digitally see what is going on in the classroom. Khan academy is a great tool to use when differentiating instruction. Students can complete skills based on their level and can learn at their own pace. This program has various models of implementations. Khan can connect students and teachers through coaches, and allow each teacher/coach the ability to set goals for each student based on their ability. I have personally used this tool with my 8th grade class. I implemented Khan as a supplementary source to teach basic coding: HTML and CSS. When we were asked to develop a tutorial for a free asynchronous communication tool Khan Academy was my first choice. This tool is an effective way to present relevant ideas to my students.

Future Goals:
My future goals will incorporate the use of the tools and resources that I have learned in the MSIT program at the University of Southern Mississippi. I would like to be employed by a consulting company that provides professional development (pd) to teachers across the country. I would like to instruct and facilitate workshops for educators, that will teach them how to embrace and use the technology they possess in their classroom. I would also like to develop and create pd's that are engaging to educators and geared toward 21st Century Learners. The goal of the training would be to bridge the technological gap that continues to grow between educator and student. I would ultimately like to develop a curriculum that incorporates technology.
